Trailers for ‘Liberation’, a new Danish film from director Anders Walter. The film stars Pilou Asbæk, who previously appeared in 1864, 9 April, A War and Game of Thrones. Asbaek is joined by a strong Danish cast while cinematography comes from Rasmus Heise.

The film was originally announced last year under the title ‘Before It Ends’ while it’s Danish name was ‘Når Befrielsen Kommer’ (‘When Liberation Comes’).

The story of ‘Liberation’ is described as:

“In a high-stakes choice between duty and danger, a school principal must put his conscience before country as 200 German refugees are thrust into his care by the invading force as the Nazi’s are placed on the back foot towards the end of World War II in 1945.

As his own people turn against him, he is the only voice for these displaced women and children but even he must come to terms with the fact that his charity, his compassion may put the lives of his own family in harm’s way.”

Heres a trailer for the film:

It’s great to see European film industries tackling lesser known aspects of the war. The premise of ‘Liberation’ certainly looks interesting and complex. The film is set for release in the UK on 29 January. Perhaps one for us to review, let us know your thoughts in the comments!

  1. I like these type of films that make you think of different social effects of the war within normal social settings ,,not every war film has to be just about the men that are fighting.
